JOPAL APPLICATION SYSTEM

Sandwich Panel Fixing

Sandwich panel fastening requires sufficient screw length for the full panel build-up, suitable drilling capacity for the supporting steel, correct thread geometry and appropriate sealing and corrosion protection. JOPAL supports technical fastener selection for insulated panel systems.

ENGINEERING SELECTION

What matters for this connection.

Fastener selection

Start with panel thickness and support thickness. Select a fastener with the required clamping range, drill capacity and thread arrangement so the panel is secured without relying on excessive compression.

Installation control

Install perpendicular to the panel and supporting member. Control tightening so the washer seals the penetration while the panel face and insulation core are not unnecessarily crushed.

Connection checks

Review panel build-up, support material, fixing position, washer size, pull-over resistance, thermal movement, exposure and the manufacturer documentation for both panel and fastener.

SELECTION QUESTIONS

Common questions for this application.

How is screw length selected for sandwich panels?

Length is based on the full panel and connection build-up plus the required engagement in the supporting member. The selected screw must also have a drill point suitable for the support thickness.

Why does clamping range matter for sandwich-panel screws?

The fastener has to accommodate the panel build-up while placing the thread and drilling sections correctly in the connection. Overall screw length alone does not confirm this.

What is the risk of over-tightening a sandwich-panel fixing?

Excessive tightening can deform the outer sheet, over-compress the washer or locally crush the panel. Installation should produce secure clamping and controlled sealing.
