JOPAL APPLICATION SYSTEM

Purlin Fastening Screws

Fastening to steel purlins depends on the support thickness, connected build-up, required embedment, drilling capacity and exposure condition. JOPAL provides technical selection support for suitable self drilling screw configurations.

ENGINEERING SELECTION

What matters for this connection.

Fastener selection

Select the drill point for the actual purlin steel thickness and confirm the connected-sheet or panel build-up, screw length and required thread engagement beyond the support.

Installation control

Install perpendicular to the purlin and allow the drill point to cut before full thread engagement. Use controlled driving to achieve firm clamping without stripping the thread or damaging the washer.

Connection checks

Check support thickness, drill capacity, pull-out demand, connected-sheet pull-over, connection build-up, washer requirement and environmental exposure.

SELECTION QUESTIONS

Common questions for this application.

What is the key selection parameter for screws fastening into steel purlins?

The drill point must suit the actual purlin thickness. Screw length and thread engagement must then suit the complete connection build-up.

Why should drilling capacity and screw length be checked separately?

A long screw can still have a drill point intended for a different steel-thickness range. Length does not define the drilling capability of the fastener.

What connection failures should be considered at a purlin fixing?

Selection should consider the complete connection, including fastener pull-out from the support and local pull-over of the connected sheet or panel.
